You have to wear many hats… Yes really… And it’s great!

I am approaching my 6 month mark at Brosa. In the world of start-ups that is a pretty long time, and indeed so at Brosa. I felt like part of the furniture as soon as I stepped through those doors, it was great!

One thing that was said to me in the interview process was, “you have to wear many hats at Brosa”. This has been said in every interview I’ve had, so I didn’t think much of it. However I have to say, this is a philosophy that we actually live and breathe at Brosa. It is not a cliché at all and is one of the things I truly enjoy about the environment.

Technically, I am the Talent & Recruitment Lead, but I have written HR Processes, a Culture Initiative Policy, a whole Culture manifesto, and am currently running a whole documentation overhaul for Brosa. Does that sound like it is just a Talent & Recruitment Lead role? Hell no!

In the last 6 months I have been given the opportunity to develop professionally in ways I have not been able to develop in the last 5 years of my career. I have true empowerment when it comes to making decisions. My ideas are heard and I am trusted to act upon them. With this, healthy tensions still exist, which is also highly valuable. I will present ideas, which will be debated and critiqued. I will then back my idea with logic and reason, and will ultimately get the opportunity to act.

. I think the corporate world, where the word ‘agile’ is banded around, should truly embrace it, not just technology teams in the truest sense of the word. Allowing people to wear many hats allows for ideas to flow from the most unexpected sources. It allows people to develop at a pace that is far beyond what you can imagine, as problem solving and continual learning is interwoven in their day-to-day roles.

I know that this won’t be for everyone, but at Brosa we hire people who are able to work like this, who are hungry for responsibility and information no matter what stage they are at in their career.
Does your team have what it takes to make business decisions beyond their job description? If yes maybe it is time to allow them to do so. Do you have what it takes to make decisions, come up with creative solutions to problems, and have your responsibilities change on a daily basis? If yes, give me a shout about the current and future opportunities at Brosa.
